A lot of Forum members have 3.42's and the sy 3500 and swear by this combo. So that's what I'm putting in. I can't give you first hand experience but maybe some will chime in.
If you're mainly looking for a better downshift then you might consider getting LS1edit which will allow you to modify the behavior. There is a C5 Scan & Tune forum here. Check it out.
How much more bang will I feel going from 2.73's to 3:43's with the 2800 one you are selling....
I want to plant my girlfriend in the seat from the line!!!! right now I get a good whooop when I hit WOT going about 35-40 ... it shifts perfectly and the engine screeems!!! but if I'm at 50 or 55 it really doesn't do much of a kaboom downshift...
Are you kidding! How about your only problem will be T R A C T I O N :yesnod: With 3.42's and the PT2800 and the Transgo shift kit I get 10 ft chirps in the 1-2 shift and the car is sideways if I don't get off it!...The 2-3 shift will put you in the trunk at WOT
The 2.73's are a joke a paperweight!! GM made a great car but they put a slushbicket torque management system in the transmission driveline program for the masses ..It sucks.! Do I have your attention yet ?
There is NO comparison...Just Do it! :smash: :smash:
the transgo kit goes into the tranny ??? right ??? will that void my Warrantee???
Not only the Transgo, but also a Torque converter as well! Your warrantee goes bye bye after those two mods, especially if you have transmission issues, and decide to take it to dealer!
But if anyone knows and has experience with trannys, then VSTELLA is your man! He'll give you all the details on rebuilding a tranny, to make it bulletproof!
ok... here's my trouble... my vette has 61k miles on it... and I paid a ton to add the drivetrain warantee... not running my car at the track... but I want a bit more kaboom off the line... would a set of 3:73's (without the torque converter do the trick ???? I want that seat of the pants feel off the line..
I can get this at arround 30-40mph... punch it and it takes off like an anamal... my gearing now is 2:73... adding the 3:73's... will that whack out my warentee and give me the extra pull I am looking for ???? .... now Ihave a a4 automatic... stock (did exhaust and intake... blackhawk)... will I definitly feel more pull with 3:73's alone ???
The 3.73s alone will make a big difference over the 2.73s. Even 3.42s will make a huge difference, Mike Mercury has 3.42s and a stock converter I am sure he will be glad to fill you in.
TCs should be matched to your engine and whatever mods you do to it, if you leave it stock or mostly stock, 2400 will work fine, if you radically change your power band a higher one will be necessary to maximize your performance. All out race engines will be as high as 4000 or more. My son in laws Big block powered Z-28 Pro Street car has a 4000 in it and will probably go higher when his new 750 horse engine is finished. Can you imagine not being satisfied with 650 rwhp and a two stage nitrous system.
I have the 3.42's with stock TC. The gear change makes the car quicker up and down the entire rpm range. So would 3.73's, but then you start to push the Highway RPM's up.
I still do not have that off the line kick you are talking about and I want also. The TC is what gives that. Either a PT2400 or PT2800 will really kick but off the line. The Yanks are better mid range, but the better gears cover that. The ProTorques are hot off the line.
3.42's and a Protorque converter and Traction is a problem.
I do think for less money a 3.42 with TC will out perform a 3.73 with stock TC.
Hi Tyler, you really should drive over to Extreme Motorsports in Tempe and talk with Nate and his folks. They will be doing a Yank 3000 and 3.42 install for me in the not too distant future. Nate can answer all your questions and give you professional advise. You can't beat their prices either. That is just right down the street from you...
They all sound like good replys about TC's.
I'm kinda biased when I say go with a Yank 3200 with 3.42's. I think it's a fantastic combination. The only problem you will have is traction. I've layed down some good times at the track with this combination. (see sig) Of course I have some other mods and used ET Streets to get these times.
