Harmonic balancer is wobbling dont know if i need to fix it or not.
So i took my C5 in for an oil change and was told my Ac tensioner was separating. Seemed odd to me to i just went and look at my car. from what i can tell my harmonic balacer is wobbling and my ac tensioner looks fine. I cant figure out if they misspoke or not.
I did some research and it seems to be a common problem and i cant figure out if its something i need to do asap or not or how to tell if that is actually the problem. Also are there any guides on how to do it anywhere if i need to do it right away.

If you can see the balancer wobbling, then I'd start planning on replacing it. There is no way to tell how soon one might fail. Could go 10K more miles or it might go within a couple of thousand. I tend to be proactive on things like that but keep an eye on it if you're going to wait for a repair.

FYI stock replacements are pretty cheap. gmpartsoutlet.net has them for under $85.

OP, not sure how much its moving but sooner is better than later as failure can be much more costly.

If it were mine I would go ahead and change the balancer. Do yourself a favor and use a Power bond OEM replacement. I replaced a wobbling balancer with a stock AC Delco unit back in 2015 during a engine rebuild.
The car developed a chirp when running and I looked at this NEW AC Delco replacement and it was wobbling in less than 6,000 miles and a little over a year. (just out of their one year or 12,000 mile warranty.)
I then replaced that one with a Power Bond OEM and not a problem since. I also went with the ARP bolt while I was at it.
Power Bond is now under the Dayco brand and is about the same price as the Delco unit and is available on the big auction site.
Good luck with your repair.

My A/C tensioner and harmonic balancer both failed on my '99--I'm not sure if one was the result of the other, but you may need to replace both. I also used the Powerbond OEM replacement and am very happy with it.

Mine's had a slight wobble since I got it... I marked bolt and inner/outer to watch it. AFAIK nothing has moved with about 25 track days since. I do plan to change it though.
