Last night was at a stop light, shifter in first, clutch petal depressed, got a green light, went to take off(rather aggressively) and heard a pop/snap and shifter goes back into neutral. Go to put it back in first but when I let off the clutch petal the clutch won't engage. It will not engage in any gear from 1-R(those the computer/Speedo will show the relevant speed at that gear/RPM if that's relavant), it will go into 1st and 2nd with the clutch petal not depressed, 3rd-6th it will make a weird noise not quite grinding it I put in in those while sitting at idle.
it's a 2000 btw, but the clutch/fly wheel are c6 z06, short throw shifter as well, previous owner had a shop do that work.
Any thoughts on possible problem? Failed linkage? Slave cylinder? Master cylinder?

Another thinks it's a failure in the rear diff, maybe a ring gear, since I have mph indication, I do have 4.10 gears so they are more prone to fail I suppose

Perhaps the bolt connecting the shaft from the short throw shifter box to the linkage has come loose. Or the bolt that hold that tube to the drive shaft tunnel?
