Hi all, I am getting a constant low oil level message in my C5. However, the oil level is actually a bit above the recommended operating range on the dipstick. Anyone have ideas what the problem could be? Thanks.
I've got a similar issue. Previous owner installed headers. I haven't jacked it up yet to take a look, but what do I do if the wiring is ruined by the headers? Just splice in a new length of wire and tuck is somewhere out of the way?
GrantV mentioned changing the dipstick/tube. Is this common practice when installing headers due to clearance? Could this be giving me an inaccurate dipstick reading and potentially the sensor is fine? How can I tell?
Awesome, thanks. It seems everything with a float switch on my car is failing. haha. I've also got a bum fuel level sensor and washer fluid sensor. The car throws a fit every time I turn it on.
Buy a large (20 Oz) bottle of Techron Concentrate Plus. Let the fuel get to under 1/3 tank then add the entire bottle to the tank then fill with your favorite Prem fuel. Sometimes takes more than one treatment to correct the problem and in extreme cases one or both sensors need to be replaced. What ever you add to the gas tank goes into the drivers side tank. Then filling with gas allows the added fuel to churn up the Techron into the fuel and when the drivers side tank is filled the mixed solution flows over the cross over tube into the passenger tank. For a little better results, if you can, let the car sit a day or three to let the solution work on the oxidation on the two fuel sensors. One sensor in each tank. Codes will tell you which sensor or if both are problematic....
Don't want to get off topic, but I've run a few tanks of Techron through it. I think I did it wrong and didn't add it before the fillup. Oh well, I've already got a new left-side sensor ordered since I read that's usually the issue.
If you pull the codes you can determine which side the failing sensor is......... Better than guessing.
Live and learn. I'm getting ready to go on a week long vacation. Perhaps I'll run one more tank of Techron through per your instructions, let it sit for the week, and see if it helps. If it does I can try to return or sell the sensor.
I finally got under my C5 and found that the wire conduit crap melted and spliced up my oil level indicator wiring. WTF. While I'm at it, I may as well drop the starter because I think I want to wrap all wires in that area with a heat resistant tape. There's about a million choices out there on heat resistant tape. Anyone have one they recommend?
When I installed my headers I bought sparkplug wire socks at Napa and ran the starter wires and the low oil sensor wires through the sock to protect against heat.
You will have to cut yhe metal ring out of the one end of the sock to allow room for all wires to pass through, and remove the connector from the low oil sensor wire, thread wires through sock and reinstall wires into factory plug.
Headers been on 3yrs and have had zero issues.
That's a good idea; I found this stuff called Cool Tape Insulating Tape; I already bought it so I'll give it a try for now; I'll try the spark plug socks if this does not work out; Thanks DVUSz06
