2004 C5 in neutral gear
I was parking my car after a along drive. While shifting the gear from "Reverse" to "Drive" the lever suddenly became light and the car was stuck in neutral. I am afraid that the gear shifting cable is broken. can anyone guide me how to repair and what spare parts will be needed

Could be just a worn out bushing on the shifter linkage. Seems to occur most often at the shifter end. See the link below for the fix. Do be careful not to break the shifter cable if it's not already broken. The cable is delicate and won't withstand much bending.
