Battery question

Just replaced a 7 year old battery that was acting up. After replacing I reconnected my tender and when I checked this morning the light on the tender was still showing red ( usually changes to green). I am original owner of this 01 with 40000 miles and never had any electrical issues. Any ideas why this new battery might not be holding charge? Thanks

The battery you bought may have been sitting on the shelf I wouldn't worry.

I bought a Red Top brand new from Autozone, when I got home after installing, I put the battery tender on it, took about 4 hours on it to get green.

just confirm a nice connection

I would also give it some more time and double check the connections to ensure they are tight on the terminals.

I had the some concern when I bought my first battery for my '02. It took 2 days for the Battery Tender light to go green.

Just take the car for a run. Your battery will get charged up very quickly. But, if it doesn't have enough beans to start the car, I would take the battery back.

After I retired from "full time" work, I wound up working for Advance Auto Parts, "part time", for several years, for a little pocket money. Yes, some batteries are very popular, and barely sit in inventory for more than a week or two, while others can sit for a few months. We always rotated our stock, and if we noticed a battery that was on the shelf for an extended time, we'd put it on our charger. But not every store does that.

It can take days to fully charge even a partially low battery with a tender being that they rarely even charge over a rate of one amp. Once the battery is fully charged it will turn green right away again. It wouldn't hurt to take the car out for a hour drive or so to get a good charge on it.
