the AC belt on my 2003 just broke again last week. this happens about every year or less for 2 years or so now. i think this is the third time. i was thinking i just had a bad brand of belt. come to find out after looking at the ac pulley when the engine is running that the belt jumps back and forth a little bit. took belt back off. ac pulley/clutch has some wiggle in it. can't tell if it is the pulley or the compressor itself. the ac works fine when a belt is on. can i just replace the pulley/clutch head or do i have to do the compressor with it as an assembly? has anyone replace one on the car? it is a tight area. any other thoughts? thanks in advance.

My AC belt just broke as well. Was going to start a new thread but saw this one. My belt doesn't look worn either. It actually split down the middle. My AC stopped working mid summer last year and I just said oh well since I have a removable top. Though I just got a oil change last week and now the car has a rough idle. I check under the hood and see the Harmonic balancer has a slight wobble and that the AC belt is broke and dangling a bit. The pulleys the AC belt is connected to is not turning while the car is on either. Not sure if my issues are related to one another and/or if replacing my belt will cause another belt to brake the same way.
not sure. i will have to check. the ac pulley/clutch assembly does have some slop in it. i guess if it was the compressor, it would have failed and the ac would not work.
it does not seem to be any. pulley/clutch assy on ac compressor wobbles. can this be replace or do i have to do the whole compressor?
It can be from the research I did years ago with my very first compressor fail. It happened while I was on a date too. What I ended up turning up was that it potentially was going to cost me around the same because I didn't know and still don't know about pulling a compressor apart. Finding a mechanic who even worked on compressors would have been a task at that time. Unless someone in here has experience with removing that clutch, you may just be better off replacing it.
