Default 38 Real Time Dampening codes

I am currently getting an unclearable code under the 38 RTD category (1780 loss of steering position signal) on a 98 with selective ride (f45) and I am wondering if someone can tell me if those without selective ride even have this category 38 come up when you check your codes.

As I will be deleting my f45 in the next two months, I am not sure if I should be spending time trying to resolve this code or will all category 38 related codes just go away once f45 is deleted.

If you are just planning on using Sims or resistors to just fool the system the RTD category will stay and you likely will still have that C1780 remain.
Perfect. Thank you so much!

A related question. I've been doing some research to pull some instructions on the 98 F45 delete as apparently there is a different procedure for 97-98 C5's with F45.

Does anyone know if the first or second set instructions is the proper one for a 98? They are both pulled from different threads regarding 97-98 F45 delete.

Procedure #1
1. Hook up Tech 2, turn car on, make sure module in the rear is plugged in. Do not unplug the rear module.
2. Use Tech 2 to delete the F45 option.
3. Save new configuration.
4. Do not turn car off, do not remove Tech 2. Go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the grey connector (the widest one), leave any other plug(s) in.
5. Turn off car, leave Tech 2 plugged in.
6. Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of car. [never plug them back in again, if you do the F45 turns on automatically]

6.5 Unhook the negative post of the battery and walk away for an hour

7. Turn car on to verify the "max speed 80 mph" is gone.
8. Unplug Tech 2.

On many of the F45/55 deletes I have done the process just doesn't work without the battery disconnect. Oddly 15-20 minutes should be sufficient to discharge all the capacitors and reset anything. Yet I have hooked the battery up at 45 minutes only to have to do the whole process over again and wait an hour. I can't honestly say how often the battery disconnect is necessary. I've started just doing it every time because I know it will work that way.

Procedure #2
Well, after the 3rd trip to the dealership to see my buddy we FINALLY were able to delete the F45 with the Tech 2.
Here's how we did it, and how I think you have to do it on the '97 and '98 model year cars:
1) Drive to dealership, shut car off
2) Unplug the RTD module in the driver's side rear luggage compartment
3) Hook up the Tech 2 (don't turn the ignition on!)
4) Get to the BCM reprogram screen and put "X"s to the right of the RPO codes you want. You don't want the F45.
5) Reprogram the BCM. This happens pretty much instantaneously when you leave the BCM reprogram screen. There is no confirmation of anything happening.
6) Stick your key in the ignition, turn it on, and verify you don't have ride control errors coming up.
7) Enjoy not having the F45.
Notes:
We never pulled any fuses for the BCM, but some people have mentioned doing that. I couldn't figure out when in the sequence to pull the fuses, so we tried without and it worked. If it doesn't work, you may consider pulling fuses before or after the reprogram (I'm not sure if you can reprogram the BCM with the fuses pulled though). BTW, I found 3 fuses labeled BCM in the passenger foot fuse panel.
I think you're supposed to program with the key off so that a code doesn't set for the ride control (the error comes up very soon when you turn the ignition on). This may screw the reprogramming up.
DO NOT plug the RTD module back in. The BCM will see it and automatically put the option code back in (sneaky sneaky...)

I used this procedure
1. Hook up Tech 2, turn car on, make sure module in the rear is plugged in. Do not unplug the rear module.
2. Use Tech 2 to delete the F45 option (F55 does not appear on the menu screen, use F45).
3. Save new configuration.
4. Do not turn car off, do not remove Tech 2. Go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the grey connector (the widest one), leave any other plug(s) in. [leave the other 1 (F45) or 2 (F55) plugged in]
5. Turn off car, leave Tech 2 plugged in.
6. Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of car. [never plug them back in again, if you do the F45 turns on automatically]
7. Turn car on to verify the "max speed 80 mph" is gone.
8. Unplug Tech 2.

Thanks. I noticed you have a 02. Was this procedure done on someone else's 97-98?

So just to update, the dealer was able to delete it and yes, 8VETTE7 is correct that the whole category 38 goes away. Procedure #1 for my 98 did not work, but the second procedure did.

At any rate, this got me thinking. It seems that as long the module is connected, in this case the ESC module in the trunk, then you cannot delete that feature. Because TechII allows you to "unstar" certain features seen below for the deletion of Real Time Dampening, would that mean that it can be possible to delete Active Handling as well, granted that you disconnected whatever needed to be disconnected in a similar fashion as how the ESC must be disconnected to get rid of the F44/F45 DIC from showing up?

Yes you have to leave it unplugged or it turns back on

So you've deleted Active Handling?

No just the F45 (for the shocks) option, the rest stays the same

Yes. I was wondering if the same logic could apply to Active Handling where you use TechII to "unstar" or delete the feature and then unplug whatever needed to be unplugged for Active Handling to function and then leave it unplugged.

Just a curiosity.
