Default Help Corvette Guru's 1991 Engine shot

Fellas
I don’t know if my 1991 is a C? .
Will a 2002 Corvette engine fit a 1991 Corvette Basic? My 1991 Basic engine has lost compression on 2 Cylinders and is shot.

I do not know if the 2002 is a Basic or not.

Thank you in advance for your help. I will delete the Post after I get it done.

It could be installed, but it's certainly not a direct bolt-in.

I've never heard either engine called a Basic before.

Your 91 is a C4 and is the L98 based off the older generation small block. The 2002 is the LS1 and is a completely different design. I would check in the C4 technical section of anyone has completed this swap. As stated in the prior post, it is certainly not a drop in. You will likely also need a transmission from a f-body (Camaro/Pontiac) since the C5 transmission doesn't bolt directly to the engine, rather it is in the rear of the car.

Just did a quick check in the C4 section, there are a number of threads. Here is one: LS1 Swap into a C4

the engine in your 91 could be replaced with a rebuilt for a lot less than a c5 engine swap. that said yes its possible but alot more expensive

Sell it and buy a C5 - great prices and better everywhere. This coming from a long-time C4 owner.

I did an LS3 EROD CA smog legal swap in my 1990 Base car 6 speed...its not hard for a tinker type of person...lots of work and I'm still ironing out the details. Financially it doesn't make sense but it was my first car I bought with my own money and I like the sleeper build surprising others when they see what I'm packing! I'm only here because I will be acquiring my dads 2000 FRC soon and looking into after market seats when I came across this post and just had to chime in here.

Here is my post on the conversion. I still need to update with all the finer details, but this will give you an idea what you'll be in for:
