P0101 Again
The last time I had this thought it was because the fuel cap broke and I was not able to tighten it down. Have replaced the cap and after filling tank I made sure cap was tight.
Drove about the same distance as last time and the Check Engine Lite illuminates.
Last time I checked and checked and checked again the air ducts from the Blackwing air filter to the throttle body, same for PCV hose; everything is fine. I cleared the code and it did not return until yesterday after filling the fuel tank and driving 70 miles.
I am at a loss as to the cause and asking the awesome Corvette Forum members for suggestions.
Four/five weeks ago the P0101 showed-up and all I could find was the fuel cap broke such that I could not tighten it down after I had just filled the tanks. Replaced fuel cap, cleared code and all seemed to be fine, no Check Engine Lite.
Brings me to yesterday (6/23) and after filling tank drove 45 miles, stopped for several hours and then upon drive home, Check Engine Lite with the only code being the P0101. This was the same route as driven above after filling tanks.
This is why it appears to be associated with filling the tanks. Now I know that I have a bad check valve as fuel pressure drops with engine off...so I have a fuel pump replacement in my future.
This is where I am at.........
If you do not have the shop manual I can post the 4 relative pages if you want them. I just read through them and nothing related to the fuel system is there. The diagnostic aids point to obstruction to the MAF sensor or electrical wiring issues relative to the MAF sensor, a stuck engine coolant sensor and high or low resistance to the MAP sensor.
Post back if you want the 4 shop manual pages............
Right on. After a heavy acceleration got the check engine light. Decided to do the MAF cleaning for the 1st time at 38K, 3rd owner. When I went to remove the stuff so I could get to the MAF, the 2 connect clamps were loose.
Cleaned the MAF, reattached everything tightly and no more check engine light.
Even though I have checked the MAF and it appears to be clean, think I will just go ahead and do what rrwirsi did and clean it and go from there.
Just really seems odd that the code is set only after I fill the tanks. Perhaps my car is just wanting more attention from me!!......
I have not oil the Blackwing since installing it. I have wiped the MAF wires very gently but have not used any type of cleaner on it....that is going to be next. Did drive Corvette yesterday and no Check Engine lite....so the mystery continues.
Thanks once again for the pages.
I removed the Blackwing filter, MAF and the air duct from the engine and in the process of separating the MAF from the air duct, at just the instant the two separated, I lose my grip on the MAF and it goes for a short flight and lands on the garage floor.
Put a nice little flat spot on the air inlet. %*&@***#%$^@)(&^@&!!!!!
So have ordered a new replacement MAF as I doubt after hitting the floor it will even work at all now.
I went ahead and cleaned it, cotton tip on the three heating elements....which were quite dirty....which may have been the source of the intermittent P0101 I was seeing. I went ahead and re-installed it and will go for a drive later on today.....perhaps it may still work for the week it takes for replacement MAF to arrive.
Blasted dealership detail shop sprayed some kind of silicon all over the engine compartment to give it that "shine"....but also made everything slippery as can be. Have wiped/washed and it still remains. Makes for a really, really great dust catcher!!
So the "fix" is either cleaning the MAF, dropping MAF onto the floor and denting it, or purchasing a replacement MAF but not installing.....or a combination of the three.
?????????????????????????????
