Default Service Active Handling

I had this come on a few times in the past, but very infrequent. Starting last week I'm getting it almost every time I drive (which is twice a day; it's my DD).
The code I get is C1296 H
So where do I start guys?
Car is 04Z, just shy of 50K, stock apart from headers and intake.
I'm quite mechanical, not so much electrical, so clear explanations please...

It is most likely time to rebuild your EBCM, but there are a few things you can check out before digging into that.

Check out this thread, good info.

May this help
C1296
One of the following conditions exists:

The brake fluid pressure sensor signal is greater than 4.9 volts for 2 minutes.
The brake fluid pressure sensor signal is less than 0.14 volts for 0.1 seconds.

"Brake Fluid Pressure Sensor (w/JL4) - The brake fluid pressure sensor is attached to the BPMV. The EBCM uses the brake fluid pressure sensor as an indication of the brake fluid pressure in the BPMV"

Oops, that's my goof. I got C1214 and C1296 swapped in my head for some reason, C1214 being the code usually pointing towards the EBCM rebuild procedure being needed (if grounds have already been addressed). Thanks for chiming in and correcting me.

I'm not completely sure where the EBCM is, but will look for Internet pics and check all associated connections. Anything more to clarify Monday is much appreciated.

Is the BPMV the block with all the lines coming out? I'll do a search for this also. The schematic kills me a bit, but any help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys.
BTW, am I losing the active handling while the warning is on the dash and when it isn't??

When the error occurs (C1296) the VSES (fancy GM name for Active Handling) is disabled for the remainder of the ignition cycle. So even if the message goes away while you are driving the AH is no longer available until you restart the car and the message does not reappear on restart.

As far as understanding the schematic the brake fluid pressure sensor uses signals that come from both the main electrical connector on the half of the EBCM unit without the brake lines and from the sensors on the car related to AH (ie Yaw sensor , Lateral accelerometer and Steering Wheel Position Sensor). There is one connector for the left half of the EBCM and a second for the right half of the EBCM (with the brake lines). What you should start with is removing each connector and checking the pins inside both the unit and connector for damage or corrosion. Also check the attachment of the wires at the connector for damage.

If after inspection of wires and pins you have not found a problem then to properly check voltages in the system you will need a Tech II. If you have access to one I will post the problem resolution matrix. If you don't have access to one then you are looking at finding a shop that does have one. The matrix does indicate that the brake fluid pressure sensor itself can be replaced separately from the BPMV.

Thanks to OELARSE for posting the diagram.
Great start for an electrical novice like me, thanks. I took a picture of what I am pretty sure are the 2 connectors you are referring to.
Any hints on how theyare disconnected? Do I just pull the white safety pin and then... pull / slide the first one?
Second one, is there only a release on the top? Or the bottom also?
I need smaller hands.
