I've been thinking about getting headers for my car and I notice that O2 simulators are being included with many FLP Header packages. So I wonder how the O2 simulators work? Its my understanding that the computer reads the real O2 sensor and adjusts the air/fuel ratio depending on the reading. So what does an O2 simulator do to the computer's attempts to adjust A/F ratios? I would think it would prevent the computer from fine tuning the A/F ratio for better performance. Thoughts?
Ok, so the computer can no longer adjust A/F ratios because is being tricked. So what down side does this have? I would guess that it can not adjust for any modifications to the engine, so you should have a custom programming done any time to make a change. I would guess that it can not adjust for altitude changes because it can't sense that the O2 level is changing. I assume its a given that emissions would increase. I would also guess that fuel economy is decreased. I would also be afraid that general drivability would suffer. Is any of this true?
