Help car starts then stalls while driving.
2002 A4, I also noticed a different pitch in the sound of the exhaust. Not normal. More low drone. any advice would be appreciated.
No codes on the DIC. Fuel guage still reads 60 psi.

The only other code I was getting was SDM U1040.
There were a couple of problems I had. 2 of them were fixed, but this one still lacks on.
I had 2 plug wires burned thru causing misfire and motor shaking. (Fixed)
2 Tensioner bracket pulleys were bad( procharger), they were fixed
This stalling involves something were the exhaust note has been lowered and the ideling rpms bounce and lower. Not sure what it could be.
My brother said he had the same symptoms on his C6 and the problem was the PCM, a new one fixed his.
Not sure what else to check.

SDM or Sensing and Diagnostic Module is the brain for the air bag system and the U1040 is loss of communications to TCS. Highly unlikely to be related to a engine stalling condition.
As I stated the cause could be most anything. I doubt that even data logging would provide you any additional help in isolating the cause since no codes are being triggered. I would NOT suggest just throwing parts at the symptoms as that will get expensive very quickly.
Perhaps someone else has an idea, other than waiting for a hard fail, on how to narrow down the offending part.
