Default fuel gauge C5

I was on an Interstate with three eighths tank left, all of a sudden Check gauges lit up and my gas gauge read empty. How can I fix this?

I'm going to move this to C5 Tech for an answer.

I have this problem , and have read a lot about the various paths to a fix, but haven't done it. So all this info is just talk , no action.

I use only top tier fuel, so sulfur corrosion on the sender was not a problem, at least not a problem that a ton of wasted techron could help. It finally hit me that the guys reporting a chemical fix were reporting from areas without the tightly controlled fuel quality of my area. So I ruled that out, as much as possible in a car with so many miles. I feel corrosion would be constant situation, mine only happens at times.

The best fix I have read about is to have the computer reprogrammed. See the dealer, ?choke, gag.

My gauge blows up after a long continuous run, so I fear the problem is the transfer jet
between the tanks. It's a Venturi effect deal, developing flow from the main pump, but not driven by the pump, only the liquid leaving the tank. So, any unusual wear or clog in this eductor will slow the normal fuel transfer over time so that the tank levels get screwed up and then the tank sensor sends information outside of the computers understanding, so it throws the readout to empty. One guy had a little debris in his jet, and reported back.

Then there was the guy who just replaced the interior units, and figures he is good for another decade.
