Default light not working properly

hi all, trying to help a friend out, he has a 2002 coupe with only 14k miles. like new, anyway his headlight wont flip closed sometimes. he doesn't think its the gear for some reason. can there be anything else that would cause this? thanks, Nutsy

If the stops are missing or damaged the headlights can open far enough for the gears to bind a bit before they stop in the open position. Since the way the motor travel is stopped is by the HCM monitoring current flow to the motors and shutting off voltage to the motors when current reaches a certain level, open lights that are binding could cause the HCM to shut off voltage while the lights are stuck open. But again the chances of stops on both lights being missing or damaged at the same time is pretty small.

More likely it is either the multi function stalk (MFS) on the steering column or the headlight control module (HCM) itself. Each affect both headlights at the same time and each are known problem points on the C5. My money would be on the MFS......
I should have mentioned its only 1 headlight. sounds like the stop is a good place to start. thanks for reply,
