I just had a new Pioneer AVH-3300 NEX installed. Works great but one problem. When I turn the key to ACC the H/U turns off. I asked the installer why it does that and he said that he installed as per the instructions so it is working as it should. What did he do wrong? The radio should work when the ignition is turned to ACC even if it is not the stock H/U correct?

Are you sure that you are in ACC. Sounds like you are referring to RAP - retained accessory power - of the original HU. This keeps certain power on for five minutes after turning the car off. Remember, if the car is running and you turn the key counter clockwise, you put the key in the OFF position.
You can keep RAP with an aftermarket HU as long as the harness adapter that was used supports it.

My ignition key switch has OFF ACC ON START. When I turn it to ACC my stock radio stays on. My new HU turns off. When I turn the key to off my stock HU would stay on for 15 min. or until I opened the door. This from what I understand is the RAP you refer to. My new HU is off on every switch position except the ON position.
When you install an aftermarket HU, you have to "find" a source for power
There isn't one in the factory wiring that connects to aftermarket unit.
So if the "professional" installer just connected a generic Chevy wiring adapter the new HU it would work just not with the ignition in the ACC position? I am trying to get all the info I can so I can go back to this guy and tell him to set it up right.
You cannot get acc power from the original radio harness for an aftermarket head unit. Or any power at all for that matter. There is an acc, constant on and ground wire that is taped off inside the passenger footwell fuse box on Corvettes up to 2003 models. If your radio will only come on with the key in the on position then its getting power from a non acc wire.
So I just recently replaced my HU with a pioneer touchscreen. I used the axxess interface but now I am planning on replacing all my original speakers and adding an amplifier and a subwoofer. My question is do I still need the axxess interface if I’m getting rid of all the, original equipment?

No you do not need the Axxes interface. You will loose the RAP feature of the factory radio and the attempted implementation of it in the Axxess interface.
I have seen this interface cause battery drain issues. I have removed it from several cars and all the battery issues went away.
