Default Need some help diagnosing an AC problem

Recently my '00 FRC (manual HVAC, therefore no DTCs) has become unbalanced, with the passenger side vents cold and the center and driver side vents have minimal cold air.

Any ideas?

TIA, and have a good one,
Mike

No, that wouldn't cause the difference in temperature from the passenger side to the driver's side. This is a BIG difference; way too much to be just the drop in temperature due to where the vents are in relation to the evaporator core.

Thanks for the suggestion, though, and have a good one,
Mike

Mike,, You would think it would be that way but,, 9 times out of 10,, its LOW!

The evap coil is divided between the passengers side & drivers side. If its LOW, it will only have enough energy to cool part of the loop.

Its easy to check or have checked.

Ok, Bill and foggy, I'll check it out. Got to pull out the manual and gauges!

Thanks for the help, and have a good one,
Mike

I could be totally off base but,, like I said, Its an easy check and easy fix. If you need to add R134a, add the stuff that contains OIL. When the system leaks, it most of the time looses oil.

If there is Any extra oil in the system will be stored in the receiver dryer.

Please relay your findings.

Well, y'all were dead on. This morning I got out the gauges, and checked things out.

Ambient temp: approx. 85 degrees (shop thermometer has died).

Low side: 23 psi, high side, 170.

After adding about a half-can of R134a, with fan running on high:

Low side: 35 psi, high side oscillating between 225 - 270 (where fans shift to high speed).

This afternoon, heat soaked, car cooled down *much* faster than before, and passenger and driver side vents are much more balanced.

Thanks for the help, and have a good one,
Mike
