Every once in a while maybe once a week, my engine rattles when I turn it off. Maybe it is dieseling or something. Only got 30,000 miles on it though. Maybe it’s not that at all. Any idea? Anyone else have this happen?
Re: Does your engine “rattle” when you turn it off? (JMon)
Assuming you are running premium gas, I would guess that bits of carbon are creating hot spots in the combustion chamber. I have found in the past that adding some fuel injector cleaner and a blast thru the gears does a pretty good job. Of course I blast thru the gears every chance I get. When I changed heads on my Mustang with 60k on the motor, my combustion chambers were exceptionally clean, so I know it works...

Try keeping your clutch engaged when you shut down. If the noise is gone, you have the same situation as the rest of us. Normal, so they say. Good luck!

I have an A4 and I think I've heard what your talking about. Very suble though. It has since dissapeared. I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse. Take your car for a good drive & open her up a few times. ;)

Every 6 speed Corvette I've ever been in does it without the clutch engaged. As mentioned, try leaving the clutch engaged and see if it still does it.
It's Normal.

If your car is an M6 it will rattle when you shut the car off. If you shut the car off with the clucth in it won't rattle. Chevy doesn't have a fix for it either, I've tried.. :boxing

You know? For as much money as we pay for these cars, they should last a life time. Without any rattles or what have you. They should also be beating Cobras. Which cost half as much.
Oh yeah. I occasionally hear my dad's rattle. But I usually have the Bose system turned up so loud that i can't hear a blasted thing. :D
