Do you hear it when the car is not moving? If yes, likely your fuel pump. Often times your turn signal will cause the fuel pump sound to fluctuate if you haven't noticed. If no, could be transmission or differential.
The fuel pumps tend to be a little noisy but not obnoxious.

I am the FNG here. Never owned, but always wanted a Corvette. Now I have one So everything and I mean everything is new for me. That why this forum is so important.
To answer your question; YES. I only noticed it yesterday when I was sitting in the driveway at idle. I revved it up, still there as a constant. After turning it off the noise stopped.
Is this something I need to take care of or is it indicative of the C5?

It is not necessarily indicitive of an issue. You may also notice it gets louder after an extended drive. Mine lasted 200,000 miles and was still working fine when I pulled it out. I changed it since I was replacing the sending units and figured I got my money's worth.
