Default How to test HVAC controller??

Ive done my due diligence searching these forums but with no luck. Forgive me if this has already been posted

Problem - hot air on drivers side, cool on passenger

What Ive done (Auto AC) - removed driver side actuator only to find out that it looks like its already been replaced by a previous owner (i come to this conclusion because it had no blue gear, and the main gear was the much bigger one and thicker than the stock). There were no splits in the gears.

I hooked a 9v battery to the leads and verified the components move properly and freely. Reversed polarity, and gears went in opposite direction smoothly.

reconnected actuator (but did not connect it to blending door), as i wanted to test the operation of the actuator first.

Started her up, turned on the AC, and the gear spins properly the way it should (indicating it would open the blend door properly). But when i turn the heat up, the gear i would think should spin in the opposite direction right? Mine doesnt do this.

Is there anyway to test the HVAC controller to make sure its sending the proper signal to the actuator? Ive seen on these forums that the controller display can go bad so people get it serviced, but nothing about the controller itself not sending the proper signals to the actuators.

I also turned the blend door manually to make sure it opens and closes freely which it does.

I can post a video of my results if this would further assist you.

If the actuator is not working properly you will usually get a code if you use the dic to check instead of a scanner. You have to use the dic to see these C5 specific codes. If there are no hvac codes the most common cause for this problem is low r134. I would have the system evacuated and recharged before I would be looking at the controller. Your passenger side is still cold because of the way the system is designed. Search "cold passenger warm driver" and you will get many hits describing this problem.

I had the system evac + charged 2 months ago I called the dealership and asked if they put dye in, and they said no. I also get the blinking AC light too. I will have to go back and see if they can work with my recharging it and putting dye in as there may be a leak

I assume it worked properly for a while after the dealer did the charge. Anytime it gets low means there has to be a leak somewhere so the dealer should have included dye in the service call.
