A/C blowing hot air...
I tried to search for past topics, but I got 5 timeouts in a row. I need some assistance. Is there a vacuum hose in the battery compartment that controls the hot/cold on the A/C controls? No matter how cold I set the thermostat, the vents blow hot. I know the A/C is working because one of the lines is cold and the compressor is kicking on. The controls change which vents blow (floor, windshield, etc) so I know it's getting vacuum for that function at least.
Some of you may have saw my message from yesterday where I found my battery was slightly leaking. When I pulled the battery tray I found all sorts of rust from a previous battery leak (I'm the second owner). I cleaned up that area, and only saw one vacuum line which had been spliced in the past, but it looked fine.
I also had hot air blowing out my vents with the AC on. The next time I got in the car to start it up...the AC worked fine, and has ever since. Very wierd

While I was waiting on a reply to see what everyone recommended, I went out there and tore the battery, tray and inner wheel well back off ... again. I came in to take a break and read your message. Decided it can't hurt to try your idea. Well guess what, IT WORKED! I guess the computer got confused or something when I disconnected the battery or something...who knows. In any case it's working fine now. Wierd one for sure!
Thanks a bunch for the idea! Who knows how long I would have been chasing that one down.

I had the same problem two days ago, went away the next time I started the car though, good luck with a fix, and if you find it let us know :) :seeya
It must be some sort of weird quirk. I just fired it up one last time tonight and the A/C is still working fine. Go figure. I'm actually quite happy with my cleanup. The rust sealer dried to a nice black coating, and all the wiring looks perfect. I swapped that battery out with a newer AGM type battery (like the 2001+'s have) and hopefully that's the last of the battery acid. Nothing like working on a car less than a week after buying it! :cuss
Also, nothing like pulling a perfectly good battery! That's $ that could have gone towards wheels . :cry
This is getting to be a fairly common problem as the C5 gets some age on it. What's going on is that the temp control doors in the dash are getting out of position. When you remove the battey power and then reapply it, the temp doors go through a repositioning sequence.
I fear this may turn into a real nightmare as these cars get more age on them.

I have to agree. I was finally able to search the forum this morning on this issue and there were many complaints identical to the one I have. There was another message identical to yours that hit the nail on the head. When you replace a battery, the vent door goes through a complete cycle, possibly getting stuck in the process. My car came from Florida, and probably has seen the heat mode rarely, if at all. My guess is it cycled, and momentarily got stuck. I checked the DIC for error messages, and didn't have any. Not sure if that would throw a code, but I would think it would.
Oh well, still working. Maybe one day somebody will figure out what the h*ll is going on.
