Shock help please!!
First time poster on this site, but this is my 3rd vette.
I've owned a '73 Stingray, '82 Pace car and now a 2004 base C5.
I believe my left front shock has given out due to the hard banging I here on every pothole and bump.
My local Chevy dealer refuses to give me a part number and allow me to cross ref available shocks. the VIN is 1G1YY22G745114046 the best I can guess is I need FE1 (soft ride) and F55 (Variable ride) and something called magnetic control?
The dealer told me just the fronts cost $1700.00 and the rears cost $1600...
The only ones that I can find cheaper are the
GM Original Equipment™ Front Driver/Passenger Side Shock Absorber by ACDelco®. @ $680.54 each
GM Original Equipment™ Rear Driver/Passenger Side Shock Absorber by ACDelco®. @ $530.80 each
Surely there are some Gabriel shocks or Bilstein shocks for 200.00 that will work?
Can I disable all the electronic crap and still get a nice ride??
I'm not a racer, I'm not a track guy, I'm just a cheap guy

Happy wrenching! It's an addiction......

IF,,,,,,,,, You decide to get rid of the F-55 System and install conventional shocks, Gene also has a complete set of FOUR C6 ZO6 Shocks for around $350. Great bang for the buck and work very well.
IF you want a more comfort shock, get the C6 Z-51 shocks . I Do not know what Gene gets for those.
YES, You MUST use the GM Tech2 to remove the F-55 RPO from the BCM! The STEALERSHIP usually will NOT do it for you. Most shops have a Tech 2 and can assist you to remove the RPO.
