I would see what they gap of the rings are. Maybe that can take away some of the guessing what went wrong. If their not over .025 that could be the problem.

Yeah I have no clue how to do that. Will have the builder check it.

L33 5.3 is aluminum and tough as nails. Years 04-06 I believe.
Will bore easily to your piston size.
I have one in my Nova running 24 psi. Although it's only .020" overbore.
They are a little hard to find.

Iron 5.3 prob even stronger.

BTW, all parts bolt on to either of these.

FWIW, your block can be sleeved.

All said, the add you posted is prob the easiest route.

What couldnthe builder have done wrong? I saw the cylinder after he bored it and that crack definetely wasn't there.

I have only seen used ls1 on Craigslist. If I can't find anything new For a decent price I'll go used.

I would lean more towards the tuner being the cause judging by what he said in the first post, and making a pull when the tune wasn't 100% done might not have helped either... do you have a wideband in the car at all times or did he only use it to tune?

Anyone know if Summit is still selling new GM 5.3 blocks for $399? may be an option. Prices on used LSx anything seem crazy high still.

I did by a plx wideband from Ebay but it showed up broken. He used it when he tuned. I never made a hard pull until after he tuned it the first time. He said he couldn't get it tuned above 4000rpm because of shaking but he said he left it really rich above that to be safe. His wideband was reading full lean the whole time and since he was giving it plenty of fuel he thought it was his wideband.

I dunno. Nothing I can do now. He will never give me money back. He tunes way more expensive vettes than mine everyday.

The LS1/6 has been out of production for years now, so a new one from GM isn't an option anymore unfortunately. They really need to bring it back.

hmm, are you saying your wideband was broke and he used that same broken wideband to tune???... what was shaking that was preventing him from tuning above 4k?... and when you made this hard pull after that was it above 4k?... I'm betting so if you hit 10psi with a max of 14... I know there's nothing you can do at this point but we are just trying to help so those same mistakes don't happen again... you have to be careful with boost, if the tune is off you can just as easily blow it up with 2psi as you can with 20+psi

No he used his own wideband. The shaking wound up being the exhaust running against the bellhousing as well as an exhaust leak. After I fixed that I wanted to see if I got rid of the vibration which I did. I think I got up to like 5500rpm.

I just packed up the injectors. So hopefully this week I'll know if one or more were bad. He said it would be safe because he made it extra ditch above 4K. But if I wasn't getting enough fuel in one or more cylinders I guess it wouldn't have mattered how good the tune was.

Im going to pull the engine completely out next weekend and take it all apart to see if there was any other damage.
Then I'll buy a block and have it bored to 3.908 then rebuild it with all my current parts minus the injectors.

When I got my car with the engine hydro-locked it was the 7th cylinder too. I assumed that it was because the 7th is the furthest one back on the intake and the mass of the water rushing to the back. I wonder if the air could be denser on #7 too causing a leaner condition on these engines.

Just curious because of the large number of cylinder #7 failures. I am aware of the coolant cross tube issues but what about air density? I guess there is no easy way to measure it and test the theory.

cylinder 7 typically runs leaner and hotter than the other cylinders so that's why tuners use a wideband in at least the driver side bank but on a boosted car I would rather have one in each bank in case of an injector failure or something like that so you have a better chance of catching it before any damage is done

did you happen to keep the injectors in order that way when they flow test them and one or more happen to end up bad then you can see if it was on the same cylinder that failed?

So is it definitely safe to bore the summit 5.3 iron block out to 3.908?
