2004 Fuel Gauge issue

2004 Fuel Gauge issue
Hi,
I just picked up a manual 2004 C5 yesterday and I'm having an issue with the fuel gauge.
The issue I'm having is that when the vehicle is in motion, the fuel gauge works fine. When I stop for >30-45 seconds (ex: at a stop light), the fuel gauge goes to empty and I get the "check gauges" light. Once I start moving again, within about 10-15 seconds the fuel gauge comes "back to life" and the "check gauges" light goes out.
So as long as I'm moving, gauge works. Stop, gauge is dead.
I have searched extensively and I'm well aware of the issue regarding the fuel level sensor, however all the write-ups I find seem to discuss a dead gauge while moving. I've tried adding techron plus (now on my second tank with techron addative), but no change.
If this were a 97 to mid-03 C5, I'd just pull the sending unit and be done with it. Unfortunately, I have an 04 so that means dropping the tank. So, I'm looking for any further insight/suggestions before I go down the road of pulling the tank out.
