Starting some research on re finishing the Targa top. Mine has a bunch of little what looks like cracks. I just read thru a really long thread about using different grits of paper. What concerns me is most of the threads I have seen are older threads. Is this something that won't hold up? Is there something else I should know? I also have not found any videos on line... I usually find all kinds of videos on line.. some one have some insight in this?
I sanded my clear top till the the checking was gone. It took awhile to get it smooth as I thought it should be. I sanded mine by wet sanding by hand starting with 400 grit working up to 2000 grit
If I had to do it over I would have used a DA air sander first and then went to the wet sanding to get a finer finish for spraying. I then cleaned and made sure that all wax and any other contaminants off the surface. I used rubbing alcohol for a cleaner.
I then applied a coat of bulldog adhesion promoter, after which i applied three coats of 2k clear coat. It has held up for almost three years and stills looks great.
