Default Code 1214

2003 C5 41K miles code 1214 ABS- Solenoid valve relay coil or contact circuit open? have read posts "great" Dealer want's $3,500.00 says I need both EBCM and BPMV replaced,Left message for Brandon @ Absfixer my question is what is a reasonable labor cost to replace both? And where can I purchase a rebuilt BPMV.
Thanks

C1214 can usually be repaired on the 2001 - 2004 C5's. Even a DIY repair if you are up to that:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...r-fleabay.html

There are also many reported instances where the cause of the C1214 was other than the EBCM itself. There are fuses and grounds and even the C5 Ignition Switch which can cause the voltage to the EBCM to be low triggering the C1214.
Actually that isn't quite true. C1214 can indicate replacement of both the BPMV and EBCM especially if the failure is caused by the BPMV. The diagnostic procedure calls out the sequence of tests to be performed and one of those is checking the resistance from the BPMV motor windings to case ground. If the resistance is less than infinite the BPMV needs to be replaced because the motor is shorting out. The resistance is drawing more current than the relay in the EBCM is designed to handle so the relay gets burned out as well. Thus both items need to be replaced. Now some people repair the EBCM by replacing the relay with a higher current capacity relay which may handle the increased current draw from the BPMV but that doesn't mean the BPMV shouldn't be replaced as the short will still be there drawing too much current which will result if further failures over time. Just fixing the EBCM and not resolving the current draw issue is like replacing a blown 10 amp fuse with a 20 amp fuse and thinking every thing is fine until the house burns down.

Check steps 3 and 4 in the attached factory diagnostic. If step 3 fails step 4 says to replace both units. The mechanic more than likely did the test in Step 3 and found the original failure that resulted in the code being set. I would prefer believing somebody to be honest until they prove to me they aren't honest. I doubt there are any rebuilt BPMVs around.

The OP can still try to get the EBCM repaired and save some money but the BPMV has a high probability of needing to be replaced.

Took my 74 yr old self about 4 hours to pull out the ECBM on 03 Coupe, re-soldier the relay joints, put all back together. So far, about 600 miles later and no 1214 coming up. Thanks to all the How To's on these forums.

And once you have gone that far it only takes a couple of extra minutes to use a Digital Volt Meter or an Analog Multimeter set on the maximum resistance scale to determine if the BPMV motor windings have less than infinite resistance to the case/ground of the unit.
