Default Weatherstrip Replacement Videos (C5 Corvette)

I will use this thread to post my weatherstrip replacement videos. So far I have replaced GM part # 10329158 which is the one one right above the back of your head if you are sitting in the car with the targa top off.

I know this one is super long, but you can play it at double speed on YouTube if you do not want to see all of the details that I captured. Hopefully this helps some of you have a full visual walk through to supplement the pictorial write up posted above. I will post the rest of the videos as soon as I can finish and upload them.

There are two threads that discuss background details on why, how, and which weatherstip should be used for this project. I only used OEM GM parts because I like doing jobs one time. The two threads follow.

Easy straight forward steps with pictures:

No leaks at all. Used a water hose at the house and also took it to the car wash and used the wand washer.

That's impressive for a C5. So many of them will leak under those conditions...

The key is making sure the lips on weatherstrip are rolled correctly underneath the rails/channels. I also cleaned all of the old adhesive off the body of the car to make sure the new weatherstripping was flush and snug on the car. You also have to make sure you install the targa top correctly as well because if you do not you can negatively impact the seating of the weatherstrip. In reading online, a lot of people do not clean the old adhesive off the car and those small holes allow water leaks. Also, I used the GM part, not a cheap aftermarket one so I am guessing the newer part was manufactured better than the original one that was on my car.

Default C5 Corvette Hatch Seal Kit Installation

I am going to include this video in the same thread because it is very close to a weatherstrip install. I still need to upload the actual hatch weatherstrip replacement video. Let me know if you have any questions about this video.

Thanks for these. For some reason, YoutTube videos crash my desktop currently. I must have a driver off. So I downloaded them and can watch them later. As I'll be attempting to do the windshield and hoop around the driver compartment, I'm looking forward to some visual guidance.

There are also some handy factory files available explaining how to adjust the door windows for fitment to be found on the forum here. Not sure if they are in the links you posted or not - I will go through them later.

The OEM shop manuals have quite a bit of information in them as well. Either pick up a set or buy one of the electronic versions. Well worth the money in my book.

Default Awesome - Thanks!

Just found this and watched this the other day (05-20-2018). Getting ready to install this weatherstrip in my 2K C5. GREAT video, and appreciate the tips you included.

Ordered some 3M stick caulk from Amazon a couple weeks ago, never showed up when they said it would so they gave me an option to place a replacement order, so that's what I did. Said the order was delivered today and it actually was at the front door this time. But I now have 2 boxes of this stuff as the 1st order showed up at the same time. So what I'm getting at is if anyone one here needs any of this stuff, send me a PM and I'll get some to ya. Each box has 60 feet of 1 foot strips in it. I highly doubt I'll be using anywhere near that, not even 1 box, in my lifetime. So please don't hesitate to ask for some if you think you'll be needing it.

Which part of the car are you planning on using the 3M stick caulk on? I did not use any extra for either of these installations. I guess you could if you notice any leaks after the install, but I did not need any. The OEM piece comes with the adhesive strips attached.

Mine is not an OEM piece I believe as it didn't come with the adhesive already attached. So it will need help. Also hope it fits okay.

Ok, now I understand. Make sure you test fit/plan where you are going to put the adhesive. I have had friends get water leaks in other cars because they did not take the time to set everything up correctly from the start, and then it looked like a little kid went to town with sealant when they had to fill all of the places where there were leaks.

..my plan exactly. I watched your video and I will mark every place that had sealant so I know where to put some.
