Default New shifter going in

I'm putting in a modified shorter C6 shifter into my 2003 C5Z after work today. I've watched the MGW video on YouTube and seems pretty straight forward. Any suggestions or things I should look for? Do I need to get a new gasket to go between the tranny and the shifter? It looks like the original peels apart when removing.

It is pretty straightforward. I just scraped off the remains of the old gasket and used a thin wipe of RTV.

My original gasket was fine so I just left it there. Only a 17k mile car always garaged. LOL

May be a good idea to do a shifter re-alignment with your stock shifter first while it is still in there.

Put a C6 shifter in my (nonZ) a while back.
The most difficult part for me was getting the C6 boot stapled to the C5 console trim ring without breaking the plastic.

As huesman said, straightforward replacement.
Pretty much a drop-in, really.

Don't take out the lock pin until everything is in place and bolts are tightened, and make sure the shaft in the rear is as perfectly aligned as you can get it before you tighten that bolt, and you should be good to go.

Would recommend taking it or a drive before you put the console back in.

I had a C6 shifter before the current Kirban, and I used the original C5 boot. Just trimmed the top and used a rubber O-ring along the bottom of the ****, with the boot flipped inside out, then flipped back right side out.
