Default FAST and LS2 TB Porting? Who Does

Who does porting on a FAST 92MM and a LS2 TB, I know of Mamo and Vengence. What is the actual gain for porting vs not. Is the HP per dollar worth it on a cammed car with 243s.

Most likely a few more questions need to be asked first. I doubt the FAST 92mm throttle bode needs to be touched at all. The stock LS2 90mm unit could most definitely benefit from some blending and clean up work. What intake manifold are you planing on using; LS6 manifold modified for the 90mm throttle body, ported LS2 manifold or the FAST 92mm manifold? How big of a cam are we talking about - real specs? Are the 243 heads stock or ported?

Below are the typical or target set of "matched" parts and the power results they tend to yield and a healthy 5.7L short block. I will probably get flamed for this and as always YMMV, but...

'01-04 CAI of your choice
'02-04 descreened 85mm LS6 MAF
ported 78mm LS6 throttle body
LS6 intake
nice sized cam, with say 216-220 / 222-228 with close to .575" / .575" lift 114 LSA
valve train upgrades to match camshaft
stock port 243/799 heads
LT 1-3/4" headers with 2-1/2" X-pipe, high flow cats and Z06 Ti cat back or aftermarket cat back
good dyno tune

The above combo in a 6-spd car will yield +400rwhp

If you want more then you would step up to

CAI modified for 100 MAF
aftermarket 100mm MAF housing
90mm ported LS2 throttle body on a TPiS modified LS6 manifold
or 90mm ported LS2 throttle body on a ported LS2 manifold
or 92mm aftermarket throttle body on a FAST 92mm LSX manifold
more cam, say 226-230 / 228-234 with close to .600" / .600" lift 112 or 113 LSA
CNC ported 243/799 heads
or aftermarket 215-220cc intake port heads
thinner Cometic 0.040" (compressed) head gaskets
LT 1-7/8" headers and 3" X-pipe, high flow cats and lower restriction aftermarket cat back
good dyno tune

Those further upgrades in a 6-spd car will boost you up to +440rwhp

Now you can always plan ahead and say get the bigger cam, larger diameter LT headers and x-pipe with the higher flow cat back. Then later upgrade to the larger MAF, larger throttle body, higher flow intake along with the ported or aftermarket heads and a re-tune as the budget allows.

Not sure if this answers your question, but I hope it helps to at least point you in the right direction.

Here is an old article on the ported LS2 throttle body and ported LS2 intake done on an LS2 engine in the C6;

I apologize, this is for the FAST intake manifold and LS2 TB. But thanks for the tips, The car has full bolts ons with a stage 3 BTR cam, 425whp currently, looking to swap the intake and TB for a little more

That is a pretty stiff bump stick you have there. Yes the ported 90mm LS2 throttle body or the FAST 92mm throttle body with the FAST LSx 92mm intake will get you what you are looking for, but the real key will then be those 243 heads. Are they still stock or have they been "cleaned" up or fully CNC ported? If the heads have not been ported then that will be the key to maximizing the whole packaging and making serious power.

Careful on porting the FAST. When I had mine ported, I was running out of the box Dart heads. The port matching that was set up was for AFR heads so there was quite a bit of exposed flat head surface where the air entered the head and I actually lost a few HP. I later upgraded the heads to AFR so the issue was resolved but if you plan to run untouched 243 heads you may want to just save the money on porting the FAST. The issue will be later if you upgrade heads and want to port the intake, many won't touch it once it has been run because the inside because oil soaked. Prior to making a decision, make sure you know where you are going with the heads. I knew I would upgrade to the AFR's the following year so when I lost a few hp I chocked it up to a learning experience but would have been very unhappy had that been my final setup.

my set up and numbers were similar to yours', same HP etc with my A4 and CNC 243s..smaller cam though.... added a ported Fast 92/90 and gained 11hp on the dyno on the same day tuning done within a few hours....

I plan to do heads in the future and 243s are untouched as you said. Probably just do the swap and then when I get heads I will port everything

Might be a better approach because the intake can be port matched to the heads. That's what I had done.
