Default Mirror memory module failure?

A few months ago I noticed what is probably several inter-related new problems. When I get into the Corvette first thing in the morning, the driver's door side-view mirror position is different, almost as if somebody came up and forcibly moved the mirror during the middle of the night. I doubt there are vandals in my neighborhood, but this problem continues to occur, although not always (as usual). Also when I get into the Corvette first thing in the morning, I notice on the driver's door interior console, the memory light is flashing, even after starting the car and driving, and continues to flash for about a minute then stops on its own.

Starting the car and pressing the Memory #1 button does not result in returning the driver's side-view mirror to previously 'stored' position. I have to use the up/down/left/right adjustment buttons to reposition the mirror. And pressing these buttons results in two of their own problems:

a) initial button press does nothing, second button press moves the mirror
b) while holding down the button, the mirror moves a few degrees then stops; I then must release and press the button again to continue adjusting the mirror position

The passenger door side-view mirror has none of these issues. I suspect there is a bad module somewhere.

Earlier this year both doors' side view mirror's glass were replaced with an aftermarket mirror glass having an illuminated turn signal indicator function. I do not believe that this upgrade work on the side view mirrors has anything to do with the driver's side-view mirror uncommanded position change, memory light flashing, or the adjustment buttons operating intermittently.

Any suggestions? I will be bringing the Corvette to my mechanic this month for other issues, and will add this to my list. Thank you!

Interested to see if you get any feedback.

Mine does the same thing, but it's the passenger's side mirror that acts crazy. In my case, I THINK that it's the mirror motor assembly that is the problem. My reasoning is that it's hit or miss on the mirror acting up, but the one consistent factor is having opened the passenger's door (or having driven the car). If I just set the mirror positions and lock the car, when I unlock I don't have any issues. BUT, if I open/close the passenger's door (cause the mirror to get vibrated/giggled), then the mirror goes crazy and the light flashes.

SO.. my guess is you are having the same issue I am. The reason your's always acts up is because you always have to open the driver's door (vs I almost never have to open the passenger's door).

When I first bought my '04 I had the same problem. Found out that the battery was on the way out. Put in a new battery and keep it on a battery maintainer when not in use and have not had any problems since. Been over six years now.

my passenger mirror moves down towards the ground every time i put the key in (memory function).

It doesn't matter how many times i set the pass. mirror location the hold "1" to store it. It keeps moving down everytime i get back in the car. driver's side stays where i put it without a problem.

I asked this question a few weeks ago and all I got was "just fix it" comments. If someone knows how to deactivate all of these extras, I'd love to hear it. I'm going to delete the HUD (I hate it/it's distracting) and want the memory garbage gone (I wouldn't have ordered the car with either and don't care about the resale value).

Hey guys.. I had with a similar issue and just fixed it last weekend. Both of my mirrors did whatever they felt like doing.

There is no way to fully disable the memory function. You can disable the "easy exit" feature that moves your seat back when you turn the car off -- that might help the seat issue. But it doesn't really disable the memory function...

The mirrors move when you unlock the door with the fob. They are trying to adjust to the saved memory position -- but, you likely have bad position sensors, so they move randomly.

BOTH of my mirrors did this. every time i got in the car. drove me nuts.

I did a DIY fix which disables the mirror motors via a switch. This won't help with seat issues. but it will definitely keep your mirrors from moving.

If you only had the issue on one side, you could just do that side...

Here's what i did to fix:

What would it take to replace the broken parts for this? Would it be a matter of replacing the position sensors/motors in the side mirror?

If the only issue is your mirrors, in theory yes. I've read that he mirrors themselves are easy to break if you try to remove them from the assembly. And new ones aren't cheap!

There could be trouble in the door control modules as well, or maybe communication between the two. My understanding the the DCMs (or at least the RDCM) have/has memory modules/chips/etc that control it. There would probably be a way to just remove / de-solder that from the DCMs as well...

With all that, i knew what i did was going to work, and i've been happy to have not had to adjust my mirrors a single time since i did it - but of course it's not a real "fix" -- it just stops the problem from occuring.

I had the same problem. Have you checked for codes? I had a B2262 memory position fault code. Followed the troubleshooting steps in the service manual and ended up having to replace the mirror motor. This fixed my problem.

It's a problem that seems to popping up more and more as these cars age. The only 100% true solution is to replace the DCM from what I've seen. I keep meaning to do the same sort of thing as ninety6. I just haven't been able to motivate myself to tear my interior down ... again.

lol replacing the dcm seems a bit over the top. Theres some really good troubleshooting matrix diagrams in the service manual. You need to follow through them exactly as described. In my case, one of the mirror motors had an issue.

IMO if you start throwing money at parts, you are going to have a bad time.

No, so I just opened a new thread. I was seriously considering implementing the 4-pole-single-throw toggle switch solution that "ninety6" described, and I even bought a switch from Amazon (only a few dollars). But before undertaking such an endeavor, I thought I'd try one more time to ask the forum membership if a better solution exists; for example, if there is a separate mirror control module and if so, to refurbished replacements exist anywhere. As far as I've learned, the door control module does not operate the side view mirror. Which is too bad because plenty of these are available for purchase.

did you ever figure out the problem? I am getting the same thing wear the memory light continuously flashes. And when I try to adjust the mirror with the button, the mirror will go for about a second. Then i must release and press the button again and repeat until I get the mirror in the right position.

I had this exact issue and was able to solve it by replacing the mirror motor itself. You pull the mirror off and cut the motor wires out and then wire them into a new one. I also had a trouble code for mirror motor (cant remember what the code was, but could aid troubleshooting)

The only reason im skeptical about replacing the mirror motor is because I am not throwing any codes. Might just start with the mirror motor if its not too expensive though. Had this problem for months and couldn't find a definite answer on the forums.
