Wipers won't Home when turned off

Wipers won't Home when turned off
on my C5 (2001) Coupe the wipers won't home when turned off...
Funny thing is, 3 weeks ago I was going down the road and the wipers just came on with the switch in the off position. I continued to work the switch trying to turn them off. Nothing seemed to work. just as I was about to get off the road to turn the car off they just stopped... They did home as they should... then a short time later they came up as if I had them in intermittent, but the switch was in the off position. while this was happening, the wipers would not come on when activating the switch.
Nothing abnormal since then... Except two days ago it was raining, I turned the wipers on. when I turned them off they are now in the intermittent position and won't home when turned off. Now everything works as it should with the exception they won't lay down in the home position.
This car is driving me crazy with all the gremlins in it...
Any suggestions???
