Multi Function Stalk (MFS) has crapped out. NOT an uncommon C5 problem. MFS is the stalk on the left side of the column that controls turning on/off all the lights in the car as well as functions as the turn signal lever, headlight dimmer, etc.
Nope. It's fine, and since the high mounted center brake light works, the problem is "outboard" of the controls. The manual points to the hazard switch as the most likely problem for the brake lights, so that will be step 1. New OEM on it's way from Rockauto. Then we will see if the IC lighting is still playing up, but I have a bad feeling I have two discrete problems and not a single cause.
But the electrics on these cars are just over complicated. Why the hazard switch replacement should require a whole pile of trim removal is beyond me, as is the overly complex, not to say expensive, IC lighting system.
