It may not be as bad as you think. If you do decide to remove the bolt, you could always run the same size tap (M8x1.25, I think) into the hole to clean up any burrs. Worst case you'd have to drill and retap/helicoil/timesert/whatever (if you can fit in that area). A right handed drill might help.

Went into the local used tool place this past weekend. He had a 8X1.25mm Timesert kit there for $50. Looked like someone bought it, did one hole, then sold it to him.
