Default Cross Threaded Advice... exhaust bolt

Last time I removed manifolds, pretty sure I cross threaded first bolt near #2 cyl. No leak and seems solid... IF I don't remove again.

Just changed cam and of course considering exhaust options. Want to replace heads eventually, but considering exhaust beforehand.

If needed, easy to tap and fix with head on the car?

I'm thinking prob should NOT touch it until ready with new heads.

It may not be as bad as you think. If you do decide to remove the bolt, you could always run the same size tap (M8x1.25, I think) into the hole to clean up any burrs. Worst case you'd have to drill and retap/helicoil/timesert/whatever (if you can fit in that area). A right handed drill might help.

Went into the local used tool place this past weekend. He had a 8X1.25mm Timesert kit there for $50. Looked like someone bought it, did one hole, then sold it to him.

These E-Z Lok are more fool proof than Helicoil.

If you have a drill index and some metric taps you can install them or just get one drill bit and a tap.

I would get a thread chaser instead of a tap. A tap will cut through the buggered threads where a chaser will push the metal back where it belongs.
