I gutted my car for racing, and I took the chassis to a cage builder to make my roll cage. He dropped the gas tank setup to get to the frame, so I never saw exactly how it was all plugged in. From what I can deduce, the fuel return line goes into the evap canister? I'm deleting the evap canister setup - because race car.
Does that line returning from the engine bay carry any significant volume of fuel? Or is that just extra or blow off from the fuel system or something? I saw that Frog Racer guy cut his evap connectors out of the evap box on YouTube. Does the return line feed through that back into the tank or something?
The return line doesn't connect to the "?" pictured below; I tried. I think that connected to the evap canister as well? I would love for someone to help me sort this out! I got the driver's side tank back in, but I don't want to put the passenger's side in until I know what's what. Thanks!
I think the fuel return runs off from the fuel filter. The line that hooks into the EVAP on the driver side of the engine/firewall only vents the air from the gas tank. You can cap it if you dont have emissions. I haven't had the fuel tanks out so I can't speak to the other lines.
As I recall only the 97-98 models had a return fuel line, EPA requirement for non-return lines necessitated the change. The fuel line configuration for the early vettes was finalized in the mid 90"s before the requirement.
Ok, I got back under the car to take a pic. This is facing the driver's side tank from where the transaxle sits. The line I'm pointing out here is the one I dunno where it goes. It's a second line that runs from the engine bay all the way back to the evap can. Is this where that weird hose that hooks to the throttle body (I think?) goes to or something? Is there some sort of waste that goes out there? I'm confused on what this line is for. My entire driveline is out of the car right now.
That line should connect into your evap purge valve on the driver side beside the throttle body or maybe a little behind it. Then the purge valve is connected to the throttle body. It uses the vacuum of the engine to suck out the gas fumes from the gas tank.

So I'm assuming it's probably safe to just leave that disconnected and plug up the purge valve on the throttle body?
