Default Dash help???

Hi all,
Many apologies in advance to all that will say to use the search button...but I really don't know what this panel (see picture) is called, so that makes it tough.

I've got a '99 Coupe and these buttons all just stopped working. Not that big of a deal, but it sucks be cause my battery went bad, I replaced it and now my key fobs don't work and I can't re-connect them using the sequence. Also, I can't switch to anything on the DIC other than what it shows, which is the odometer. I also can't check for any codes or check anything else. All of the buttons just stopped working, it wasn't an intermittent thing or anything like that. However, when I bang second gear, it does say that traction control is active and I let a bunch of air out of one of the tires and it told me that the tire was down on pressure. That tells me that everything is working with the system and I'll assume that it's the buttons...

Any ideas? ....or is this just something that I will have to live with?

Thanks in advance, Craig

Had this issue with a couple of friends cars where the buttons did not do anything or the cluster acted like one of the buttons was stuck. After a bit of testing it was determined that the cluster was bad.
Installed a replacement and all is working.

Was it easy to replace or did the whole dash have to come out?

The center console, radio surround and drivers knee bolster have to come out. Then the steering column bolts need to be loosened to drop the column down a bit the instrument panel can come out. There is a screw behind the fog light/trunk release buttons that some people have missed along with one behind the little vent next to the ignition switch.

I have done the IPC swap in about 20 min but I have had many apart over the years. Tools you will need 7, 10 and 13 mm sockets/nut drivers and a T15 Torx driver. It helps to have a panel tool or thin screwdriver to remove some pieces.
Many of the good instructions for disassembly have pictures that disappeared due to Photobucket's policy changes. The uninstall order is as follows:
Before starting if the car is equipped with the telescopic column to extend it fully. It is helpful to also tilt it all the way down.

1. Remove the traction control panel by pulling up at an edge (a screwdriver or panel tool helps). Disconnect the connectors on it.
2. Remove the 2 10 mm nuts at the front of the center console under the traction control button
3. Remove the 2 nuts at the back of the center console, these are under 2 black caps
4. Slide the center console back a bit and remove the electrical connectors to it (accessory power port and fuel door release). Put it aside.
5. Remove the 2 T15 screws behind the ashtray area. One is to the left of the lighter and the other is behind the ashtray.
6. Remove the little vent next to the ignition switch.
7. Remove the T15 screw behind the vent,
8. If you have an automatic put it in 1st gear. For a manual put it into 4th gear. Set the parking brake.
9. Gently slide the radio surround towards the rear.
10. Disconnect the cigarette lighter power connection. This has a pain in the rear connector, gently pull back one tab rocking it to that side then release the other. Gently remove the surround. Put the automatic trans back into park.
11. Remove the Fog/Trunk buttons by gently prying out from the dash. Disconnect the electrical connector.
12. Remove the 7mm screw behind the button assembly.
13. Along the bottom edge of the knee bolster remove the 2 T15 screws.
14. Gently pull to the left of the Fog/Trunk button area to release the spring clips holding it. Disconnect the interior temperature sensor from the knee bolster.
15. There are 4 7mm screws that hold the metal cage around the bottom of the steering column. A long 1/4" extension on a 1/4" ratchet is useful in removing these screws. There is a wire harness clipped to the side of the cage that should be removed from the cage.
16. Now the 2 13mm nuts that hold the steering column to the dash structure can be removed. This will allow the column to drop down about 1/2 inch for clearance.
17. There are 2 7mm screws along the bottom of the instrument cluster remove these. Along the top of the cluster there are 2 T15 screws remove them.
18. Now you can gently move the cluster out of the dash. There is a large connector behind the tach side and if equipped with HUD a ribbon cable along the top. Remove the HUD cable first if equipped. The large connector can be tough to get out. The release for it is in the middle, just press in on it and it should come out with a bit of effort.

Reverse the process to install the replacement. It may be necessary to move some of the trim and buttons from the old cluster to the new one depending on how complete the new one is.

Hope this helps.
