I think at one time GM sold a kit. You might want to ask a dealership.

I do not think the passenger air bag disable kits are available from a dealer, but you might find all the parts you need from a used parts vendor like Vettenuts. Worth looking into.

I was looking for kit when searching for a C5, but ended up buying a late 2000 that already had one.

One seller on eBay has the kit. They are pricy.

I did quite a bit of research on this as I have a '99 also.

The kit that GM used to offer was discontinued well over a decade ago, and people initially got hold of non-installed OEM stock. From what I can surmise as to why the kit was discontinued so quickly is that there was a potential worry of having a "retro-fit kit" do the work of disabling the air bag rather than an OEM setup. The other issue is that at the time - I'm not sure if this has changed or not - is you had to have the dealer do the work so they could provide documentation that the vehicle was now equipped with an non-OEM air bag defeat device. Even if you were to install something like that yourself by law you have to disclose to a subsequent owner that the car is now equipped with a non-OEM way to defeat the air bag.

Ultimately I believe it came down to liability issues (which is no stranger to C5s [column lock...]).

One thing you will have to have done if you install an aftermarket device of any sort is you absolutely have to upgrade the seat belt to the later type belt. The earlier type belts only function "one way", that is, they work in conjunction with the air bag as they're designed to purposely throw passengers slightly forward into an air bag should it go off. If you have the air bag disabled but do not change the belt it will function as if an air bag is still in place (potentially very dangerous).

Thanks everyone for the responses! Been doing research on it and finally found a used set up someone is willing to sell me at a reasonable price... not cheap but not outrageous. Going to put in within the next month hopefully everything goes smooth. Anymore input on the install is appreciated
