I am going to be installing a HUD in my car soon. I have all of the parts and have one question about the installation.
What have you done to attach the HUD bezel to the dash pad. I was told that the factory uses push nuts. I stopped by my local dealer but the parts book only showed the bezel and not any hardware to attach the bezel.
I did find some push nuts. I could only find axel push nuts so I may have to modify them to work but that is no problem.
I have everything torn apart. It was a fairly easy job with all of the information available on the forum. I tested the projector (bought it used) and it works fine. I need to run back out to the store to because I forgot to buy a right angle adaptor for my dremmel tool.
What have people used to cut the dash for the bezel? A dremmel tool? with what but? A sabre saw with a fine tooth blade? Also, the area that needs to be cut out on the back has a wide cut line (recessed area). Does it need to be cut on the outside or inside of this recesed area. I am guessing that it needs to be cut at the outside edge.
cut it on the inside line to be safe.....then you can tweak from there.....
let me go look at the broken one in my garage ........ brb
....
OK...cut it about 1/8 from the holes (drill them first)
then you have to remove the padding for about 1/2 inch all the way around, but DONT cut the plastic.....you have to do that so the bezel tabs will set all the way down into the holes
you will see what I mean when ya cut it
I used a dremel with a cutting wheel attachment...it really didnt cut, it melted it
if you have a saw, use it, I also used a steak knife
let us know how it goes.....does your car look like this
"...I also used a steak knife " I just about fell out of my chair laughing when I read that!
Right now the interior of my car looks quite alot like those pictures that you posted!
Thanks for the info about making the cuts. Any chance that you could take a picture of the inside and the outside of the bezel hole and email them to me? That way I'd get it right the first time for sure.
Never mind about pictures. I got the hole cut and the bezel on with no problem. It was obvious once I started cutting and fitting. Everything is done. I just need to reassemble the interior.
