the turn signals aren't working right. I've got a new flasher switch , but don't know where to start. Do I remove the top of the dash, or remove the console?
A dealership will want to charge for removing the upper dash pad, which involves a lot of disassembly, etc., but I did not trust them to do it correctly. I had nightmares about dash and electrical problems and rattles for the rest of eternity. I gave it to one of the mechanical guys at my friend's body shop. He said he removed the center console cover, then the stereo, then got to the switch from below.
If you are mechanically inclined and don't force anything, you should be OK.
I assume you are talking about the hazard (4-way) switch. Unfortunately the console has to come out to take the dash pad off, the dash pad has to come of to replace the switch - its not that bad once you get into it.
I cant see how the switch could have been taken out without pulling the pad, the screws that hold it on are a pain to get at with pad off laying upside down on the floor. Maybe they changed something on the newer ones but I did a 97 and 99 and I cant see how he did it - not saying its not possible but it sure wouldnt be easy
