My Y2K vert is not a daily driver .....so I just use the key and the door lock switch.
My fobs need to be reprogrammed just about every time I go to use them.

my Y2K *is* a daily driver and I got sick of using the key every day...being unable to open the trunk, manual locking etc. reprogramming every time, same issue as you.
I had bought a new OEM Y2K fob (expensive) several years ago after the originals both died. it lasted a while but now its been about a year since my latest fob started going out. even with reprogramming/relearning/battery replacing...that new fob kept losing sync.
I ended up putting in an aftermarket keyless entry for $40 and now my car works as it should once more. the range on the new system is much much further than the stock range was so I am very pleased.
here's what the new fob looks like
wiring wasn't difficult with the help of some forum members and a c5 diagram.
let me know if you want more details in case you want working fobs again.
Upgraded to the 01-04 TPMS system. Never looked back.

I last time I looked at the conversion kit from Gene Kelley, there were some parts on back order. So I bought 4 new Tire sensors and had them installed with new tires about 3 years ago.
When my Tire sensors fail, I will probably buy the 01-04 conversion kit.
Not having a working remote is not a big deal to me.
