Default Deciding on cam, Torquer V2 or MS4?

I've been looking at the Texas speed MS4 and Torquer V2 cams, I've read many different reviews on the forum, most people say drive-ability is all the tune. Which of the two would you recommend for a street driven car?

And as for lifters would running GM LS7 lifters be satisfactory?

If anyone has cam recommendations besides these two please let me know!

Thanks

Ms4 is gonna have some surging at low speeds. It will make more power but mostly up top. The tqr series is much more steetable. Tune will do a lot but you can only do so much with a big cam.

If it’s a daily driven street driven car then I would definitely go with the T2. The ms4 is a high spinning cam to achieve those HP numbers. With the torquer 2 you’ll have more power under the curve where you’ll need it.

What are you looking for from the cam? That will help determine what you need. Do you have a stick or auto?

This.

Also, any other mods like heads, intake? You need to think about the entire package when picking a cam.

Youd be better off with a MS3. I did a MS3, longtubes and boltons and walked away with 426 RWHP and 406 TQ. Car moves out pretty damn good......

Thanks for the replies

Looking to make good power but maintain street drivability.
I have a 6 speed manual ZO6

As for other mods, I have an air intake, Long tube headers, X pipe, axle back exhaust, LS7 lifters, were building a fresh LS2 block with brand new GM parts on the bottom end, valve springs are double springs.

Stock 243 heads?

Slightly out of my wheelhouse given the extra displacement, but it seems to me you might be able to go with a slightly bigger cam to take advantage of the extra cubes?

That said, I'm a fan of smaller cams to begin with. I think the Magic Stick series of cams is too big for what you're looking for. Perhaps also consider a BTR Stage 2 or a Cam Motion Titan 4 as well.

The TSP Cleetus McFarland cam also looks interesting.

I've used the Torquer V2 cam in a couple cars. With my AFR205 heads I found very tight piston-to-valve clearance with this cam, so I ended up fly cutting the stock pistons. It is a good choice for a daily driver, but just be aware of clearances.

People love to say driveability is "all in the tune". Certainly there is a lot of truth that a well sorted tune will provide a stable idle and good throttle transitions. But keep in mind that there are trade-offs with longer duration cams. You will have less low rpm torque so you have to slip the clutch more. There will be surging at low speeds transitioning from light throttle to no throttle. You will have smelly exhaust (assuming no cat converters). Then there is the side effects of high valve lift. Be prepared to replace valve springs every 40k to 50k miles. Maybe not everyone drives their cam'd C5s like I have (391k miles and 6 cams).

After having upper 22x° duration and mid 23x° cams my current one is 222°/224°. I had to add a bunch of fuel below 4,000 rpm from my previous tune - indicating the inefficiency of the larger cams at lower RPM. This smaller cam is a better choice for daily driving, but doesn't have the lumpy idle that everyone wants.

Bottom line is choose what best suites you for driveability, power, and idle quality (sound). If you don't like it, change it again.

Take this seriously to heart. Outstanding advice.

If it was easier to change cams, I'd probably try something like a 224/228 for more power under the curve and better street drivability (I've got a 227/234 now)

I always try to have a good conversation with my stick shift Vette customers about their personal definition of drivability. Making big power on the dyno for bragging rights is nice, but enjoying driving your car is far more important to most customers.

Most people don't mind and even like a tough sounding idle. They like the loping choppy sound. What many customers don't like is the bucking at low RPM. And some complain about the raw fuel smell that can be caused by camshafts with a lot of overlap.

I will give a few options and talk about their characteristics.

A popular mild off-the-shelf camshaft for the LS2:
http://www.cammotion.com/camshafts/m...218-224-116-3/
This camshaft will have a mild performance idle and improved power throughout the RPM range. We call this a "no-sacrifice" camshaft because it drives just as good or better than stock and picks up power throughout the entire RPM range. It is no dyno-hero camshaft for sure, but you can expect it to pick up about 20 HP over the factory camshaft.

The next level of mild cams is a sleeper cam I have been making for customers. It is a 224/230 duration @.050" lobe lift with 116 degree lobe separation and .621" lift. This camshaft will also have excellent drivability in an LS2 Vette, have a mild, but noticeable performance idle and pick up about 35-40 horsepower over the stock camshaft with a wide flat powerband.

Our most popular street performance camshaft is our Titan 4 camshaft:
http://www.cammotion.com/camshafts/t...227-232-113-4/
This one has a mild lope at idle, very good drivability and excellent power. While you will experieince some bucking in the lower RPMs, many customers feel this one is the perfect balance of performance and drivability for Vette owners who want to hear lope/chop at idle.

One of my favorite aggressive street cams is our Titan 5 camshaft:
http://www.cammotion.com/camshafts/t...232-238-113-4/
This one is borderline a street/strip camshaft. It makes excellent power, have a tough sounding idle and makes great power. It will buck more than the Titan 4 and I would say this one is more for the hard core stickshift Vette owner.

The most aggressive off-the-shelf cam we sell for the LS2 is our Titan King LS1 camshaft:
http://www.cammotion.com/camshafts/t...236-244-112-3/
This one is all business! Big loping, choppy idle, great mid-range to upper RPM power and no concessions given for drivability. So, expect bucking to be just part of the deal when you want to maximize power.

I would call a few vendors and discuss your plans, TSP, CamMotion, Tick, EPS, Vengeance, Brian Tooley etc.

The Torquer v2 is about as big as I would go on a stock rear gear in a 6.0 and a touch larger than I would do in a 5.7 on stock gears.

MS4 is a valve spring eater, much better options out there.

I have an EPS cam in mine, it runs hard.

Default TSP Bald Eagle NS Cam

I'm looking at your post and the cam seem to be close to the tsp bald eagle cam. I have a 99 m6 about to put on prc stage 2 heads and currently selected that cam. So far i get good feedback from tsp but wanted other opinions.

The TSP Bald Eagle cam is really close to the BTR Stage 2 cam in my car. Honestly, it can be tuned to drive like stock with excellent street manners, and it absolutely rips up top. I do wish my car had a bit more under the curve, but compared to other cams, I suppose it's good. I also didn't degree my cam and I'm still running an LS6 intake and XS Power headers, so with a more focused build with a Fast 90 or 102 and Pfadt tri y headers it might be perfect.

So think about your entire build. What intake and headers are you going to run? If stock, you might want to select a smaller cam like a cam motion Titan 3 or something.
