Default Auto Trans rebuild?

2003 50th anniversary coupe with automatic- 95k miles.

When left in D mode, under harder acceleration the car seems to oscillate back and forth between 3rd and 4th - - fluids have been flushed - - no codes.

When operated manually or just in 3rd, it seems fine....when pushed into 4th/D and hard acceleration, it seems to "hunt" into overdrive/4th almost like it "flares" with slightly higher RPM.

Time for a trans rebuild? Local show was talking about "seals" in the transmission . . . . thoughts and costs?

Thanks

Be mindful of the difference between Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) lockup and shifting between 3rd and 4th.
Also, define harder acceleration. I can't picture you in 4th under hard acceleration on public roads for very long. Are you just cruising and then increasing throttle a little or is it enough to downshift?
My guess is you are having a TCC lockup issue, which may or may not be a secondary result of other transmission wear, not necessarily a torque converter problem. It could be as simple as a solenoid, although rare. A trans rebuild is likely in order. For cost, I would shop around. I don't know any shop that will rebuild and R&R for less than 3000ish.

Thanks- appreciate the response . . . .

To answer-- harder acceleration - - not a drag strip launch, but through 60 mph so the car automatically upshifts. It's at the 3-4 shift that it seems to hesitate or hunt briefly, then shift into the higher gear.

A couple of people have suggested a good performance shop down in Tempe and I'll take the car down there and take the owner for a ride to garner his thoughts. 3 grand's probably light, but that's what I'm hoping for if it's not another simple fix.
