Which battery leaks?

I have a Delco Freedom battery in my '99. Is this the battery that has sprung leaks for some of you? :confused:

Yep. All 1997 to 2000 are at risk. Unless it was previously swapped out with a AGM battery, (see the tech tips for PN#'s) you're at risk.

That battery is a prime candidate for a leak!! I swapped out my battery before it ever had a problem. Doing the same on your car would be the best thing to do. :yesnod:

is there any recall on the batteries or are they covered in 3 year warranty?

Any original battery that is within the original 3 year warranty, is fully covered. Extended warranty = Not Covered.

Edit - I just re-read your message...no recall, UNLESS it's already leaking.

Not sure about that... ask EvilDeed how long his 2000 vert remained at the dealership because his battery leaked without warning... it took out a harness below the battery... what a mess. He wasn't a happy camper... and was without his ride for several weeks if I remember correctly.

I don't no why it is that GM must insist on routing vital harnesses underneath batteries. They did it on the C4's as well :cuss

That's the one thing with the C5's that appears no thought was put into. At least with the C4's the computer was ABOVE the battery. I wonder how many of the 2001+ Vette's will one day have a dead battery, and a unknowing owner will put a non-AGM battery in it's place.

One other thing I noticed when I was cleaning up the after math of a previous owners battery leak on my car was this :

The Battery Tray bolts to a metal bracket that forms a nice pocket where it is welded to the frame. Let's think about this....A pocket below a battery where it is welded to the frame...how many years before the acid eats through the frame? The idiots that designed the battery placement should be shot. I looked on the other side (drivers side) and there is a nice place for all the computer stuff to go in the SAME location (just oposite). Why didn't they put the computer over on that side???? Many things about the C5 are engineering marvels...the battery issue obviously was not one of them!
