Default Pull key wait 10 secounds

Couple weeks ago I started receiving the pull key wait 10 seconds message, message clears and car starts and runs normal afterwards. This happens only when I start the car for the first time, afterwards it doesn't come on. The code is P1626 The theft deterrent fuel enable circuit, what could be causing it, any and all input would be appreciated. PS it started when I left my my car outside one night, coincidence maybe.

Thanks for the help, have had the car 11 years now, unsure what work was done on the car before. I will connect a battery charger/maintainer overnight to prove the theory. Regards Marty

What or where do I look for to see if the car has a LMC5?

Just went to the garage and lo and behold the pull key message did not appear, also heard the column unlock. So it appears that the overnight charging worked, I measured the battery voltage across the terminals it was at 11.85v, this is on a two year old optima red top, seems a little on the low side. Thanks again for your help. Regards Marty

I would suggest taking the car to a reputable auto repair shop and have them load test the battery and charging system. 11.85 volts is too low and it could be that the battery is on the way out. When did you check the voltage?

As mentioned, it's possible that there could be a parasitic draw somewhere in the electrical system that is draining the battery. There are a number of threads here that describe how to check for current draws.

I did not disconnect the negative cable from the battery when measuring. I am just going to wait and see if the problem reappears. I have never had problems with the car cranking over after two weeks in the garage, so I do not believe I have a current drain, if problem persists I will replace battery, again thanks for the help. Regards

11.85 is too low to be driving around. You are going to end up stranded.

Yesterday I replaced the battery with my fully charged boat battery that I had stored for the winter, I did this to determine if my optima was damaged by a faulty charging system or maybe just the battery going bad. As measured with a DVM after installing boat battery the running voltage was 14.8volts, after a short ride the running voltage was at 14.1, car not running voltage was 12.5volts, so my charging system is working. Will be checking battery voltage latter on this morning as well as sleep mode current today, will post latter on. Regards
