I took my 2002 Corvette convertible in to the shop because I kept getting service steering wheel lock message.
My mechanic put in a column lock by pass kit. Then clear BCM memory and test for proper operations.
While I was driving home I realized my car had lost 6 thousand miles.
He has no explanation for this.
Has anyone ever heard of this? I am worried about what will happen if I sell it.
Thanks
I can't figure it out.
My mechanic contracted a diagnostic Corvette specialist he has know for years and he said he has never heard of such a thing.Yet there it is. Went in with 71K + came back 65K +.
Get something in writing from shop regarding mileage.
No problem if you disclose fact with written statement from garage when you sell car and buyer acknowledges that he has seen docs related to mileage issue.

If it doesn't have less mileage than what you bought it with then all is good....Hopefully you will drive it at least 6,000 miles before you sell it...right? Then you will be safe again...

As long as that shop has the proper scan tool to program a new IPC and knows what the mileage was before the failure, you should be OK. But the shop needs to know all of the items that go into that unit so it can be properly programmed.

Whether you do it to the existing IPC or a new one, make sure to make copies of repair invoice, give one set and get acknowledgment from buyer regarding the repair if you decide to sell.
The PROM in the IPC is the ONLY place that stores/computes the cars mileage.
There is NO simple scan tool that can do ANYTHING to the cars mileage. It takes a licsenes facility with SPECIAL IPC interface to make mileage changes.
There are shops that can do it but, you have to HUNT them down. Some dealers may be able to point you in the correct direction.
IMHO, NOTHING the shop did (short of installing a different ICP) could have changed the mileage. You can change out the IC mileage chip with the mileage data on it but its a bit of work..
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
