Problem with Tech2 when engine off

When I start the engine the Tech 2 initialize and comes up with the welcome screen and the communication through the menus works fine .
The Tech 2 get the same +12 volt from pin 16 and ground from pin 4 and 5 in both cases .
Has anyone else had the same problem ?
It could also be the VCI module that´s gone bad .
I was curious if anyone else has experienced the same problem and found the cause of the lack of communication with engine off
Good luck!

Have you used the 120v home power supply on it? Does that work.
I usually use the OBDII port only when connected to the car. It does come with the cig lighter and battery post power supplies but I don't use them. If you are using the cig lighter power supply on it and connected to the OBDII port It will switch to the OBD power from the port during operating with the car. It will disable the cig lighter power. The first test is to be sure the external power works ok on the TECH 2. These clones do have issues at times. VCI modules can go bad, and the dc to dc converters can go out causing power issues as well.
Might want to check your OBDII port for power with the car on engine off to see if it has working power there.

My tech 2 power up as it shall when powered offline the car with the power feeded from my home supply .
I never power my Tech 2 from my home network when I connect it to the OBD 2 port in my car because I know it could damage to my cars electronics / the tech 2 scanner .
I only power up the Tech 2 with homesupply when I upload the snapshots to my laptop with TIS2000
I will try to replace the DC -DC converter and see how it goes .
I found this nice video showing how to replace it .
A new converter cost approx. 14USD
Ordered this converter
