Driving home last night, I noticed I was losing power. I pulled over on the freeway, popped the hood and saw one of the radiator/transmission hoses had came off.
I tried to push it back on and limp home, but when I came to a stop light, the hose came off again and poured transmission fluid all over the street.
I got it towed home, read the instructions on adding transmission fluid and did the job this morning.
Added two quarts when cold, then started it and ran it to temp., and was able to get another quart in.
Took it off the jack stands, started it again, and it will barely move forward or reverse when I push on the gas a lot harder than I should to get it to move.
I let it run for about 5 minutes, running it through the gears, with the same result.
Did I just not put enough fluid in? After the 3rd quart, the fluid was coming out as fast as I put it in.
Ok, so that was NOT enough fluid. I was using a battery operated pump from Harbor Freight that did not do the job. Upgraded to a manual one, put 5 more quarts in, and runs perfect.
One lose hose=$250 tow + $60 in Transmission Fluid.

Hey, look at it this way... you just flushed your transmission!
You did have it running when you added fluid the first time correct? If so, I can't see how it took 5 more quarts. About to do this job and trying to understand where it went off the rails.

Popped off ? Is it safe to assume you have a aftermarket trans cooler?

I'm surprised , with the level being 5 qt's low that you didn't watse the trans.
