Hey guys i recently noticed a real faint chirping sound coming from my engine and am stumped on what it could be. I already pulled both belts and the sound is still there. The car holds good oil pressure and i recently replaced the yellow valve springs out for blue ones . I pulled the valve covers again after replacing the springs and everything looks good, re-torqued the rocker arms they were all good as well.
Here is a link to the youtube video with the sound.
Sorry, it chirps with belts off? Check the HB. Any wobble at all?
Edit; make a stethoscope of some sort, ear one end and listen around carefully. I found a wrapping paper tube that works for me.
Yes still chirps with the belts off. The balancer was recently replaced as well no wobble there. The sound seems to persist even when the car is up to temp.
MY ls1 has a faint chirp, it its worse when the revs fall from about 2000 to idle, if i am sitting and open the drivers door, I can hear it as the engine goes back to idle and you can hear it echo off walls and such...also with the belts off and not HB wobble...been doing it for a while now, can here it much better from under the car. Im just waiting for whatever it is to break at this point, been chasing it for along time, has not gotten any better or worse in two years. you figure it out, let me know, hopefully its the same thing.
It does sound like the fans but makes the noise with out the fans running. Thanks for the replies everyone. I am going to continue to drive it and dig deeper if it gets worse.
I don't think it sounds like lifters, the sound is too "constant" with engine rotation. Is it louder from under the car, like near the clutch and torque tube?
Balancer noises tend to go away once the car has warmed up correct? This noise persists when the car is hot and cold. It is only noticeable when the hood is up. I closed the hood and listened under the car and could not hear it. It sounds like it is coming from the top of the motor but still hard to tell. I noticed one of the gaskets on the intake manifold seems to be pinched, i am wondering if that could be the culprit. I think at this point i need to pick up an automotive stethoscope.
I have a chirping sound, but mine is only at startup and sounds like it’s coming from behind the glovebox. After a minute it goes away. It’s the oddest thing.
He removed all the belts and it still makes the noise. Or does the crank pulley will chirp even without belts??
If you removed all the belts and you still have the noise, that even further points to the balancer. There's nothing in an engine that will chirp aside from the balancer.
Are you sure its a chirp/squeak that you're hearing?
