2002, loud buzzing noise coming from gauge dash, feels like it is right under the temp and oil gauge on left side...touch the flat part of gauge dash and slight vibration. sounds like an electric razor. noise starts as soon as you open door (passenger or driver) and will not go away while driving or engine off, running or not. goes on for about 5-10 minutes after car is shut off.

The chime module is located in that area you referred to.
It may be, it kind of sounds like a sick buzz, although it is a constant buzz, happens whether or not the key is in ignition. soon as a door is opened.

Thanks for the feedback
So i did some research and found that in fact your "Chime" is nothing more that a computer chip that interacts with your key and the chime sound comes from your speakers. Guess my "Chime Box" assumption can be thrown out the window.
The reason I mentioned it is because I had a similar problem in my C4 and the Chime Mod. is located just about the radio to the left.
There is a small, low cost, paper cone speaker mounted to the back of the gage cluster, it could be bad causing the distorted sounds instead of chimes; you have to remove the gage cluster for access to it.

thanks for the tip! with the doors closed, no keys in ignition....reach thru window and turn headlights on it also starts to buzz. seems like any electric pulse in the car in a static state will start the buzzing..it is electrical
