Default Doing head work....which valve springs?

Ok....I am talking to a guy who has a set of 99 5.7 heads w/ comp 941s and Lunati Ti Retainers. He will sell me just the heads for $200 or the heads/springs/retainers for $325. The springs/retainers have about 30k miles on them.

I want to use the Thunder Racing 224/224 .561/.561 112 LSA cam.

When I get the heads, I will be having them ported and polished (may have them milled 0.030 for increased compression).

Should I get the springs or just the heads and get new springs/retainers?

Since I am having head work done anyways, should I just get duel valve springs installed? Any idea what the would cost and which springs should I use?

I would get the heads w/o the springs...get a new set of springs as cheap insurance against a failure. It would be a shame to have to pull everything apart because of one lousy valvespring. It's MUCH simpler to get it out of the way now.

Does it make since to pay the extra money for duel springs?

What do you guys think of home porting? I have a BIG air compressor, die grinders, a mill, a lathe, etc.

I would have to say yes it does make sense to pay extra for the machine shop to make the duel springs work.Just extra insurance. But I was warned about getting to big of a duel spring as it has weakened some peoples heads causing the spring to break through.I would get the smallest duel spring available. But this is just my .02. Someone else may say different.

If I had to do it over again I would propably go with the duel setup as now I am getting help from the Nx guy. I wasnt planing on this when I did my current setup.

But the next oone will have a set of duel springs onboard. :D

What would be a good set of duels?

What do you know about these "REV Dual Valve Springs" that fit in the stock spring pocket?

I REALLY don't want my heads to break through

If you want a good set of dual springs then talk to Andy at A&A Corvette Specialties (a forum vendor). He has some Rev dual springs that can be dropped right in with no machine work. I think the price is $300-$320 for everything you need (dual springs, titanium retainers, & seats.

I cant remember the number of the springs.I was going through a place called Internet Racers Supply out of Houston. They changed their name now and I am not sure of it. Call comp in the morning and ask them about the springs.I want to say they were 1.55's. But it was so long ago that I put these heads together I cant remeber.

I do know that MTI has them but they charge alot of $$ for them. I was only going to pay $100 for the duals from Comp.

yeah....I asked about those. They are an outer spring and and inner dampener (I think). Has anyone ever used them? What kind of lift are people running with these?

Call West coast Cylinder Heads directly and ask for Richard(he helped design the spring) he will be able to help you with the dual spring you are looking for. I bought a set of these dual springs, titanium retainers, and seats for $300.00 a few months ago.

I have the REV duals and mine are doing just fine. I haven't broken one since everything was put together right the second time (first time I was off a tooth on the timing chain  ). Look at my sig and you'll see what an aggressive setup I have.

Same thing happened to me with 941 after only 4400 miles on them. My 918s 4500 miles later have been holding up like a champ so far!:D
