The A4's always have problems with the Passanger side exhuast coming out. Its a tight fit but it will come out in one piece with that plate removed. Its nice to have a whole uncut exahaust system in case you want to put it back in if you trade/sell the car and wind up with another C5...
To remove the stock mufflers in 1 piece, you have to be able to get the car high enough in the air (3 ft or more) to be able to twist it out. If you have a lift, its not a problem. But you can't get the mufflers out if you only have the car on jack stands. So if you plan to use jack stands, you will need to cut the over-the-axle pipe from the muffler.

Car Details: 2000 A4 COUPE
Time to Install: 1-3 hours
Reversible: Yes, easily reversible
Satisfied: 10 out of 10
Value: 9 out of 10
Installation: I used My lift at the house & just jacked up the rear only. As stated before, I needed to raise it a min. of 36" to get off the stock system in one pc. with ease. Tape measure confirmed it. If you don't mind cutting, 24" should work fine. A safe height for a floor jack/ blocking setup. 36" w/o a lift is pushing the saftey envelope IMHO. Removal was really no problem. I took off both sides in one piece. Dropped the sway bar down(18mm & 15mm socket). Dropped both rear muffler holder brackets off(1/2 " socket). I did have to take off the Pass side heat shield(1/2" socket & 10MM socket)to take down that side with ease. Only took 3 min. Walla, in 25min, old exhaust is on the ground. 22 1/2 lbs. each side. Install was easy as well. The system looked good and fit good as well. You just have to take your time to line up the tips & not go by the instructions for Sway bar tightening. Not 50 ft lbs. but 49 top & 70 on the bottom. 17 1/2 lbs. each side I am going out now to check the clamps for tightness. Cranked them down to about 55 ft.lbs!!! They didn't move
